Dear Visitor: Welcome to Nathan Twining Elementary and Middle School that is cleverly hidden on the Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. The Air Force Base is strategically located 14 miles west of Grand Forks, a community of about 50,000 people and home to the University of North Dakota which houses another 13,000 people. Twining has an enrollment of approximately 185 students in grades 4 through 8 and each student is known as a Thunderbird! The 2005-06 school year is the fourth year in which Twining has been configured as a 4-8 elementary and middle school. For historical purposes, Twining was a K-8 school prior to the 2001-02 school year. Students in grades 4 and 5 follow an elementary school schedule and their classrooms are located in the elementary wing of the building. These students are in self-contained classrooms with one teacher assigned to them. Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 are middle school students and they can be found in the middle school portion of the building and they follow a 7 period school day. Regardless of grade level, our primary focus is on teaching and learning and imbedding the 6 pillars of character education in everything that we do. Those pillars are: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Caring, Citizenship, and Fairness. As civilian employees at Twining School, we are proud and honored to serve the children of the women and men who comprise the armed forces, and who help ensure the freedom and liberties that we so enjoy as Americans. We anticipate if you are new to Twining, you will enjoy your experience with us.
